Discussion Settings

follow me step by step.

1.Default article settings. 

  • Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article. select this option. because if any type of comments tries to link the article immediately informed to you.
  • Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks) on new articles. don’t select it. because pingbacks and trackbacks become so spam on these days.so, avoid it. if you don’t know what is ping backs and trackbacks we will discuss later.
  • Allow people to post comments on new articles. select this option.

2.Other comment settings

  • Comment author must fill out name and email. select this option.
  • Users must be registered and logged in to comment. must select this option. it will save you from spam.
  • Automatically close comments on articles older than 14 days. don’t select this option. if want to select it, set the days as you like.
  • Enable threaded (nested) comments 5  levels deep. select this option. you can increase desired levels.
  • Break comments into pages with 50 top level comments per page and the last page displayed by default. you can select this option as per your requirement.
  • Comments should be displayed with the older comments at the top of each page. you can select older are newer.

3.Email me whenever

  • Anyone posts a comment.
  • A comment is held for moderation
  • Someone likes one of my posts

select three options.

4.Before a comment appears

  • Comment must be manually approved
  • Comment author must have a previously approved comment

select the two options.

5.Comment Moderation

  • Hold a comment in the queue if it contains 1 or more links. (A common characteristic of comment spam is a large number of hyperlinks.). you can choose how many links appear in your comments.
  • When a comment contains any of these words in its content, name, URL, email, or IP, it will be held in the moderation queue. One word or IP per line. It will match inside words, so “press” will match “WordPress”. you can select any type of spam or other required options.

6.Comment Blacklist

  • same as comment moderation.

7.Markdown

  • Use Markdown for comments. select this one. it is very useful for the users when writing comments.

Avatars

An avatar is an image that follows you from weblog to weblog appearing beside your name when you comment on avatar enabled sites. Here you can enable the display of avatars for people who comment on your site.

1.Avatar Display

  • Show Avatars. select this one.

2.Gravatar Hovercards

  • View people’s profiles when you mouse over their Gravatars.
  • Put your mouse over your Gravatar to check out your profile.
  • select this one. put your mouse on profile image see the magic.

3.Maximum Rating

  • G — Suitable for all audiences
  • PG — Possibly offensive, usually for audiences 13 and above
  • R — Intended for adult audiences above 17
  • X — Even more mature than above

select G. because it’s suitable for all audiences.

4.Default Avatar

For users without a custom avatar of their own, you can either display a generic logo or a generated one based on their email address.

  • Mystery Person
  • Blank
  • Gravatar Logo
  • Identicon (Generated)
  • Wavatar (Generated)
  • MonsterID (Generated)
  • Retro (Generated)

you can select as you like.

if you install jet pack 2 more options will be enabled. let’s check them.

  • Change whether your visitors can subscribe to your posts or comments or both.

1.Follow Blog. Show a ‘follow blog’ option in the comment form. Select this option.

2.Follow Comments. Show a ‘follow comments’ option in the comment form. Select this one also

if you don’t want people to follow the blog or comments simply uncheck it.

Don’t forget hit the save button. Now almost you made your site user-friendly and hard for spammers and bots.
